# Ethara

> Ethara is a free, independent mobile application that rates online retailers (e-commerce sites) on seven ethical dimensions to enable informed and responsible consumption. Available on iOS and Android. Published by Ethara SAS, Paris, France.

## What Ethara does

Before placing an order on any e-commerce site, the user pastes the URL into the Ethara app. Within seconds, Ethara identifies the retailer and returns:

- A single ethical score out of 10.
- A one-word verdict (Exemplary / Problematic / Very poor / etc.).
- A category-by-category breakdown across seven dimensions.
- Suggested alternative retailers when the score is low.

## The seven ethical dimensions

1. **Ecology** — environmental impact, materials, transport, packaging.
2. **Workers** — supply-chain working conditions, wages, safety.
3. **Animals** — animal welfare, testing, sourcing.
4. **Dropshipping** — supply-chain transparency and authenticity.
5. **Taxation** — tax practices, tax-haven exposure, contribution to local economies.
6. **Health** — product safety, regulated substances, certifications.
7. **Diversity** — inclusion, representation, governance.

## Methodology

Each score is built from public ESG reports, vetted business press, sector NGOs, and moderated community reports. Scores are sourced, traceable, and reviewed twice a year by an independent editorial team. No brand can pay to alter a score or remove an analysis.

## Pricing

The Ethara app is fully free. No advertising, no affiliate commission. The project is funded by donations and an optional Pro subscription for advanced research features.

- Android 11 and later.
- A Chrome and Firefox browser extension is in development for late 2026.
